Learning to drink is an evolutionary process. When I had my first sip, the taste was awful. However I kept drinking. Then, after only a few drinks, I started feeling the effects. Everything was funny, I was exaggerated, and generally overtaken. I resigned complete control over my body.
When the newness of alcohol started to fade, I learned to maintain. I had a few drinks and I enjoyed the feeling. Slowly the number of drinks it took to start dancing around with a lampshade on my head grew. It wasn’t that I was shutting off the feelings associated with alcohol, I was actually enjoying them more. By letting the energy circulate through out my body, I avoided recklessly spewing out these ill thought intentions.
After I learned to maintain, I learned to appreciate. I drank through wines, tequilas, brandies, sakes, scotches, and on. I explored the taste. I smelled the bouquet. Earth, pepper, pineapple, pete, and hops; these flavors all exposed themselves to me. I started to understand the nuances and subtleties. Deepening and strengthening the experience without getting lost in it.
Last week, I felt a strong attraction to a girl. It started consuming my whole body. I felt it run up the side arms and raise the hairs on my neck. I focused inward and thought about what I was feeling. Then the realization came, this is just like learning to drink.
The first response is to give in right away. Let the feeling take control. Pressurize till it can’t be contained, blurting out a stammered desperate invitation to relieve me of this all consuming pain of love that I cower from and surrender to.
The next step is to maintain. Attraction is built by realizing and identifying these feelings and then working with them. Cycle the attraction through the body, but don’t give into it. This would be the point I coyly smile or playfully tease her. However, this merely the technology of attraction and means very little.
To truly appreciate attraction, sip love. Observe it’s color, swirl it around, and smell it. Taste love, let it roll over the tongue and coat the mouth. Breathe it in and travel within it’s complexities. Enjoy and explore the feeling of attraction. This is how attraction is meant to be held.
Nice analogy…. and a great way to explain why mastering the attraction game is so damn fulfilling
